Overview:

Perform direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, and basic life support according to the goals of Mercy-El Reno, the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, Standard of Care, and Employee Code of Conduct. EMT-B may also perform clerical, dispatch, and maintenance duties as needed. The EMT-B may also assist the nursing and physician/PA staff in providing patient care in the hospital as defined in the hospital policy titled 'Paramedic / EMT In-Hospital Scope of Practice'. Perform related duties as assigned. Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Responsibilities:
Operates an emergency vehicle, responding to emergency and non-emergency scenes and transporting patients to appropriate destinations. Skilled in all aspects of emergency vehicle response, medical rescue and other related EMS specialties including principles of incident management systems and Unified Command. Operates assigned ambulance, in compliance with Mercy Hospital - El Reno EMS low forces and ambulance operating policies. Assists in the assessment of the patient in
order to promote optimal levels of wellness throughout pre-hospital care. Demonstrates proficiency in pre-hospital basic life support skills at the location of an emergency, including; bandaging wounds, splinting suspected fractures, administering oxygen, etc.

Assists Paramedics with advanced level skills as authorized by the Medical Directors medical protocols, procedures and policies. Demonstrates effective, concise, and appropriate verbal and non-verbal communications with receiving Physicians, nursing staff and other emergency services personnel. Documents information in a pertinent and concise manner, consistent with established policies and procedures. Demonstrates appropriate radio communications including; fluency, organization, and accuracy. Maintains confidentiality in all interactions. Acts as a patient advocate demonstrating techniques for providing a personalized, open, professional and caring atmosphere with respect for all patients.

May be requested to function in a leadership/supportive role in accordance with established policies and procedures which promotes interagency teamwork, maturity, professionalism. Promotes an environment supportive of cost-effective quality patient care. Assumes responsibility for continuing growth and education in his or her profession. Attends all mandatory meetings and required skill competencies to maintain currency for the position of Emergency Medical Technician. Demonstrates consistent, appropriate work habits and demeanor which contribute to the effective functioning of the department and institution.

As a public safety team member, assists in all active patient rescue activities by cooperating with other pubic safety support agencies.
Performs ambulance service duties including: appropriate patient treatment documentation and other reports, cleaning and maintenance of ambulance service property. Observes universal precautions consistently. Wears proper personal protective equipment when appropriate. Wears clothing and Health System badge consistent with dress code and Mercy Hospital -EL Reno EMS uniform policy. tends to personal hygiene to maintain a clean, well-groomed appearance. Meets Health System attendance standards. Performs additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited EMS training institution as prescribed by the department of transportation, the Oklahoma State Department of Health and State Law

Licensure: State of Oklahoma EMT license

Experience: 1-2 years experience as an EMT-Basic preferred

Certifications: CPR
