Job summary
o Provides exceptional pre-hospital clinical medicine based on the EMS Department's Scope of Care
o Maintains and troubleshoots medical equipment
o Maintains equipment and vehicles
Essential duties
o Maintains credentialing by Medical Director
o Functions independently, once credentialed by the Medical Director
o Abilities to assess emergency scenes
o Field paramedics are required to manage medical and trauma patients, direct co-workers, first responders and bystanders in a positive manner
o Utilizes electronic communication including portable and mobile radios, electronic patient care records, and computer aid dispatching equipment
o Operates EMS vehicles under normal and emergency situations
o Operates standard equipment; such as stretchers, cots, patient care monitors, and standard diagnostic equipment
o Extricates persons from vehicles, bend and lift, and perform CPR for extended periods of time
o Handles extreme stress in crisis situations
o Reports for duty on time and when assigned
o Works with and under the direction of other agencies during regional emergency response incidents
o Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
o Readily complies with departmental and countywide policies and procedures
o Performs related special projects as assigned

Job Requirements
Age 21
Minimum qualifications
o Must be certified or licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services as a Paramedic (must not have state sanctions or disciplinary restrictions)
o Must possess thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of emergency care at the basic and advanced levels
o Must be able to provide emergency care at the Paramedic level under adverse conditions.
o Must obtain system credentialing as required by the Medical Director
o Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
o Must have the ability to obtain a valid Texas driver’s license by date of hire
o Must be proficient with computer key board, use of word processing, Computer Aid Dispatching (Mobile Data Terminal)
o Must maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record
o Must obtain a valid Texas drivers license by date of hire
o Must maintain a valid Texas drivers license
o Ability to type and enter data with appropriate speed and efficiency
o Must not have any Office of Inspector General’s List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (OIG LEIE) sanctions/exclusions from employment with federal/state healthcare providers (such as or including WCEMS)
o Non-disqualifying criminal history and OIG LEIE database background check
Preferred requirements
o Graduation from an accredited paramedic program
o One (1) year 911 field experience
o Associates degree
o Data entry efficiency at a minimum of 55 wpm
