Unit Description:
BSA provides 24 hour paramedic care through our ambulance service, which responds to emergencies in Canyon and 825 square miles of Randall County. BSA EMS staffs two stations 24/7/365, one in northern Randall County and one in Canyon.
Job Summary:
Responsible for providing emergency care and transportation of the sick and injured in accordance with established protocols, BSA Health System Policies and Department Guidelines. Responsible for overseeing the department’s Patient Care Assurance/Patient Care Improvement (PCAI) Program; Continuing Education Program and Field Training Program. Oversees daily operations of EMS Department. Responsible for payroll, assists with billing and electronic medical record management as needed.

Enforce staff compliance with established protocols; BSA Health System Policies and Department Guidelines, including disciplinary actions against employees. Responsible for all functions, duties, equipment, and staff of the EMS Department in the absence of the EMS Director. Accepts other tasks as assigned by the EMS Director.

Education/ Qualifications:
Certification or Licensure as a Paramedic by the Texas Department of State Health Services is required. Certification by the National Registry of EMT’s as a Paramedic is preferred.
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Associates degree in EMS or related field is strongly preferred. A college education is strongly preferred.
EMS supervisory and field experience is required.
Basic Life Support (Healthcare Provider or equivalent) is required.
Advanced Life Support (ACLS), Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) is required within ninety (90) days of employment.
TDSHS EMS Program, ACLS, PALS and PEPP instructor is preferred.
Excellent driving record and a valid minimum Class C Texas Drivers License with Restriction “A” permissible is required for driving purposes.

Skills/Abilities 
Demonstrates competency handling emergencies utilizing all BLS and ALS equipment and skills in accordance with all local protocols and behavioral objectives in the U.S. Department of Transportation EMT Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic curriculum.
Read, speak and understand the English language and demonstrate effective communication skills by conveying necessary information accurately, listening effectively, and asking pertinent questions where clarification is required.
Possess vision and hearing necessary to accomplish all of the psychomotor skills for the EMT-Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic.
Interview and obtain a history from the patient, family members and bystanders.
Interpret written, oral and diagnostic form instructions.
Use good judgment and remain calm in high stress situations including situations not covered by written or verbal instructions.
Calculate weight and volume ratios and read small print, both under life-threatening time constraints.
Accurately discern street sign and address numbers.
Perform duties under intermittent or continuous psychological duress including but not limited to: bodies with known or unknown communicable diseases; environments with known or unknown hazardous materials, chemical materials or biological materials; persons with known or unknown mental or psychological disorders; unruly or verbally abusive persons; violent or combative persons; dead or dying persons; family or friends of dead or dying persons and life and death assessment-triage-treatment decisions
General computer, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint knowledge, and able to type 50 wpm with few errors
Oversee payroll, including using Redwood Software to enter employee timesheets; make corrections as needed.
Assist with the management of the electronic medical record software and patient billing as needed.
