This position performs basic emergency medical techniques in the care and treatment of patients under the supervision of a professional licensed staff member.

Responsibilities:
- Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to Emergency Department procedures.
- Obtains and records patient temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, weight and height measurements and places patient on pulse oximetry and cardiac monitors as per ED protocols, or as directed.
- Reports all observed or verbalized patient concerns and changes in condition to a member of the nursing or physician staff.
- Performs specialty skills and delegated procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed staff member.
- Accompanies providers examining patients in examination rooms as needed and/or assists physicians/licensed staff with procedures.
- Performs delegated procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed staff member.
- Answers telephones, documents telephone messages, schedules appointments, diagnostic tests and procedures as requested by licensed staff members.
- Attends and completes hospital and ED mandatory in-services.
- May perform phlebotomy in accordance with ED procedures and physician orders after specialized training.
- May clean and stock ED.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Emergency Department’s (ED) baseline skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Qualifications:
All of the following license(s)
- Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association or obtain within one month of hire.

At least one of the following license(s)
- Current EMT-B Certification in the State of Utah.
- Certification of a certified Medical Assistant Program or current certification as an EMT-Intermediate in the State of Utah.
- Current certification to practice as a Paramedic in the State of Utah.

Qualifications (Preferred):
Preferred
- One year health-related experience.
