The initial wage offered will be based on qualifications and experience.
Qualifications:
Education: Applicant must have a minimum of either a high school diploma or a GED as evidence of completion of a high school education and must have and maintain current emergency medical technician certification. Applicant must maintain the required annual continuing medical education credits as set forth by the State EMS office
Experience: Position requires one year experience in the field of rescue and emergency medical services. Additionally, the applicant must possess basic working knowledge of a computer and be able to enter necessary data into computer.
Special Skills: Applicant must possess and apply knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of an Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic in a dignified and compassionate manner, including but not limited to:
* Responding to an emergency efficiently and promptly
* Administer basic and advanced life support to patients
* Assess the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed
* Treat patients at scene. enroute to hospital, and in pre-hospital setting according to federal, state and local laws, regulations and standards and in accordance with company guidelines, policies, and rules
* Effective communication with professional medical personnel and treatment facilities
* Maintain order at scenes
* Complete patient care forms, insurance forms, and evaluation forms and all other forms in a competent and timely fashion
* Adhere to and follow all policies and procedures concerning safety and contamination by blood-borne pathogens
* Educate and/or train squad personnel, EMS trainees and the public
* Promptly respond to instructions from dispatcher and driving and operating specially equipped emergency vehicles at a safe and controlled speed in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and standards, and in accordance with company policies, rules, and guidelines
* Assure that vehicles are in good working condition at all times, properly maintained, and stocked; have necessary equipment and that equipment in good working order at all times
* Clean, organize, and restock vehicles in a ready condition after each transport
* Receive and responding to emergency requests via two-way radio or other communication device
*Maintain accurate records of ambulance equipment and other emergency equipment
* Properly document each transport on the approved patient care report
* Handle telephone professionally and efficiently with careful regard to the divulgence of information respecting confidentialty at all times
* Coordinate requests for non-emergent transports
* And other required duties as assigned
Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of thosethat must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:
* Standing/Walking - are frequent to continuous when responding to calls
* Sitting - Frequently when responding to a location the individual will sit in the emergency vehicle
* Lifting and Carrying - Frequently required to lift and carry weights ranging from a few pounds to ten pounds and above
* Bending and Stooping - Frequently throughout a work shift
* Crouching and Kneeling - Frequently crouching and kneeling may be performed when on scene picking up equipment or assisting patients
* Climbing - Occasionall this required when climbing steps up and down with a patient or entering or exiting the emergency vehicle
* Reaching - Frequently to continually throughout the work shift
* Pushing and Pulling - Frequently
* Handling or Grasping - Continuously, while working at any given location
* Speak clearly under stressful circumstances
* Respond physically with speed
License Required: Applicant must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, EMT certification; American Red Cross CPR for the professional rescurer and/or American Heart Association BLS certification, and other certifications as required.
