Summary:
Performs field patient care for Paramedics Plus. The EMT-Paramedic should strive to achieve and maintain high levels of patient care and clinical performance. The medical and clinical performance standards will be in accordance with documented protocols, practices, and Medical Control Board directives; in the best medical interest of the patient; and confined to the scope of practice for an EMT-Paramedic for the State of Oklahoma.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct self in an ethical, professional manner; project a positive self/company/system image.
Demonstrate the ability to follow the directions of the Clinical/Operations Supervisors, System Status Controllers, and Regional Director.
Work with physicians, nurses, public safety agencies, the general public, and other allied healthcare professionals as the need arises.
Understand and adhere to all documented clinical standards and clinical performance criteria as set by the Medical Director.
Adhere to all probationary recommendations, remedial training recommendations, and suggestions for improvement of patient care and job standards.
Achieve and maintain high levels of patient care and clinical performance by meeting continuing education requirements and by maintaining job performance skills through education and practice.
Follow medical care practices as documented in Paramedics Plus medical protocols and as mandated by the Medical Control Board. The scope of medical practice will be confined to medical practice as defined by the Oklahoma Department of Health, unless otherwise specified by directives or protocols from the Medical Director.
Responsible for overall care and safe transportation of patients assigned to the crew by the System Status Controller. Will not turn patient care over to an employee or others who are less qualified for the particular type of patient care that is being rendered.
Complete all documentation that relates to patient care and billing information on appropriate forms, in approved format, and turn in documentation as policy dictates.
Responsible for safe transport of patient to and from ambulance. This includes lifting of patient to and from a backboard, stretcher, or equivalent, and maneuvering patients past any obstacles encountered while moving the patient to the ambulance.
When assigned as an Operator/Driver, will be responsible for the operation of assigned ambulance under control at all times and in accordance with all federal, state and local laws that govern ambulance operation, and in accordance with approved company policy on safe and efficient ambulance operation.
Responsible for the care, use and appearance of assigned ambulance and equipment. Must be familiar with all equipment placement on unit and have a complete, accurate documented inventory of all equipment.
Must report to assigned shift in a timely fashion as dictated by company policy.
Must be physically and mentally ready to respond to all calls in time periods as dictated by company policy.
Must immediately report to appropriate authority any malfunctions and/or damage to any equipment or ambulances whether the crew was using or operating the equipment at the time of the damage or malfunction. A written report must also be submitted in accordance with company policy
Must submit a verbal and written report of any injuries sustained to self, co-workers, or patients to appropriate authority and submit to follow-up procedures as dictated by company policy.
Must follow guidelines and standards as set forth by The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Paramedics Plus Infection Control policies and procedures.
Must support, properly interpret, and implement any policies, protocols, standard operating procedures, philosophies, or other directives as set forth by Paramedics Plus or other regulatory agencies.
Conforms to dress code and personal hygiene standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not supervise any employee(s).

Qualification Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Certificate from college or technical school preferred but not required.

Language Skills:
A working knowledge of English grammar, spelling and usage is required. Spelling and usage must meet approval of the Medical Director, Director of Clinical Services, and the Director of Operations.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Communication with Others:
Internal:
Daily communication with EMS field personnel, EMS dispatch, EMS management, allied emergency personnel, and all levels of hospital personnel.

External:
Daily communication with various levels of healthcare professionals, law enforcement representatives, First Responder organizations, Fire Department personnel, and the general public either formally, informally or through various educational or public relations endeavors.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Must possess the ability to work independently, to think and act properly in emergencies, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Paramedics Plus staff, other healthcare professionals and the general public.
Ability to operate both the EMS vehicle and to assist others who are operating the EMS vehicle in a manner that enables arriving at the requested patient location in a safe and timely manner.
Ability to continue EMS education as required by company policy.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Possess and maintain Oklahoma Department of Health EMT-Paramedic Certification.
Possess and maintain National Registry EMT-Paramedic Certification.
Possess and maintain all certifications that are required by the Medical Control Board and Paramedics Plus. These certifications may include the following:

-CPR credentials (as defined by the American Heart Association)
-Hazardous Materials (first responder level)
-Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
-Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
-Prehospital Trauma Life Support/Basic Trauma Life Support (PHTLS/BTLS)
Possess and maintain current Oklahoma motor vehicle operator’s license and be within company guidelines. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age with no more than two moving violations in the past three years.

Physical Demands:
There is lifting and moving of patients and equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use the hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste and smell.

The employee must lift in conjunction with the partner or assist in moving and/or balance up to 250 pounds and occasionally lift, move and/or balance up to 350 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Maintain physical condition to enable proper performance of assigned job functions as determined by company policy.

Work Environment:

The work has a high stress environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
