Position Summary and Responsibilities
Objective Of The Post: Ensure that suspect EVD patients are collected and transported to International Medical Corps' Ebola Treatment Unit in a safe and secure manner. All tasks are carried out in a way that is safe for the team, for other staff, the patient, the family and the community. The Ambulance Coordinator will manage and supervise four ambulance teams (each with one driver, one nurse, and two sprayers) and will coordinate all aspects of ambulance operations including communications, dispatch, safety, infection control, operational procedures, and supply management. S/he coordinates all activities with International Medical Corps staff (in the areas of water and sanitation and hygiene (WASH), logistics, human resources, etc.) and under the supervision of the Medical Coordinator of the Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU).

Tasks:
• Responsible for the safety and security of all team members
• Ensures daily that the material required for the intervention is ready and available (using established checklists)
• Ensures that all protective equipment/PPE is worn correctly, and that all procedures are done
• Explains and discusses with the patient and the family of the patient, reasons for the need to isolate the person, procedure for disinfection of the household, including removal of soiled household items, transport of the patient and admission to ETU, details on services provided at the ETU, visitation rules and any other questions the patient or family migh have
• Participate in trainings regarding infection control, use of PPE, and other aspects related to care of EVD patients
• Collect and record data correctly according to protocols and complete all data forms as required
• Attend and participate in required meetings Training and Capacity Building
• Leads the team
• Assists with training of the team and provides continuous on the job training and mentoring as needed Human Resources Management
• Responsible for notifying the ETU Medical Coordinator about any problems with ambulance team staff and compliance protocols
• Monitors the wellbeing of ambulance team and other staff and immediately report any issues to the ETU Medical Coordinator Coordination
• Coordinates all activities with the other team members such as WASH Manager and Psychosocial Support Manager to respond to patient and family member needs
• Coordinates with local health officials and other agencies for contact tracing, other outreach activities, and labs for EVD testing as required
• Works with other senior colleagues to establish corrective measures when/if problems arise
 
Qualifications:
• Minimum degree as a registered nurse and/or paramedic
• Minimum of 3 years of experience required, of which 1-2 years should be of developing country experience or resource deprived environment.
• Previous NGO experience
• Will have excellent communications skills, both oral and written in English
• Will have excellent self motivation skills
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently in difficult environment
• Extremely flexible, willing to take on other duties/tasks and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations
• Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively
• French speaking skills are required.
