This is a full-time faculty position beginning with the Fall 2014 semester. Starting salary is between $53,322 – $88,936 depending on qualifications and experience. Salary is based on a nine month teaching contract.

Organizational Function and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for instruction in all levels of the Emergency Medical Services Department program at the technical diploma and associate degree level. This includes developing a relevant and progressive curriculum, designing and implementing effective learning strategies and environments, delivering instruction of high quality, assessing student learning, advising students, and participating in college service activities at the department, division and college levels.
This position reports to Dean-School of Human and Protective Services.
Essential Duties:
The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Facilitate instruction in the EMS programs including but not limited to the following courses and programs: Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced EMT, EMT – Intermediate and Paramedic.
- Develop and plan appropriate instructional strategies, including alternative delivery strategies when appropriate including, but not limited to, hybrid, face-to-face, accelerated, on-line course delivery, active learning, and flipped classrooms.
- Assist and advise students who have problems with assignments, tests, grades, course content, career concerns, and other academic matters.
- Evaluate student performance and provide regular feedback in courses taught by the instructor.
- Actively work with other personnel in student recruitment, retention and job placement. This includes developing strategies aimed at the recruitment and retention of minority students.
- Develop and maintain curriculum in a variety of non-traditional formats to meet student needs in collaboration with EMS department and other college staff; participate in instructional and curriculum articulation activities with other programs and other schools of instruction.
- Function without direct supervision in a team environment with the ability to support a cohesive department atmosphere.
- Comply with college and external policies, procedures, regulations and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, advanced standing, providing grades on a timely basis, maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling, etc.
- Assist students in developing work experience assignments such as clinical affiliations, work study assignments, team projects, etc.
- Attend school, department, program and advisory committee meetings; participate in appropriate staff development activities such as diversity awareness, technology training, etc.
- Use data to continually revise curriculum to improve student learning.
- Design and implement strategies to engage students in the learning process.
- Integrate the use of technology into the teaching and learning process.
- Plan and implement professional development strategies to continually improve teaching and professional experience.
- Travel using personal vehicle, transporting and loading/unloading required equipment for courses, evening and weekend scheduling. Instruction may occur at various locations throughout the college district.
- Maintain certification as a Wisconsin Technical College System instructor and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Instructor II.
- Comply with all aspects of Board policies, work rules, and the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the college mission, vision and values.
- Knowledge of and experience with current educational methods and strategies; learner-centered instruction, assessment, evaluation; collaborative techniques; and strategies that address closing the gap in student access and achievement across race, gender, and disability.
- Skill in the use of educational technology and alternative delivery methods to deliver high-quality instruction (i.e., online and hybrid course formats, course software such as Blackboard, video, interactive television, etc).
- Skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds and persons with physical and/or learning disabilities.
- Skill in oral and written communications.
- Ability to interact with business, industry, other educational institutions, and government agencies to establish partnerships.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Four (4) years (8,000 hours) of Emergency Medical Services work experience.
- Certified or eligible for certification by the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services at the Instructor II level (Wisconsin Administrative Code DHS 110.28) to teach EMS courses.
- Licensed by the State of Wisconsin as a Paramedic, or Certified Emergency Nurse.
- Certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, or obtain certification within four months of hire.
- Valid Wisconsin driver license or equivalent.
