Overview:
Perform a variety of routine and specialized patient care activities as assigned.
Responsibilities:
Ensure equipment and supplies are ready for transport; ensure equipment is cleaned and supplies are restocked; verify the ambulances are in proper mechanical condition and notify supervisor of any mechanical problems; make sure the ambulance is clean, washed and in orderly condition. Collaborate with multiple RNs and RTs to prioritize workload based on patient needs; confirm patient's name, hospital address (including city/state) and location of the patient; obtain and document vital signs and notify others of abnormal findings; obtain and document physiologic values, respond to alarms and notify others of abnormal values; provide direct patient care as directed. Demonstrate commitment to program safety.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of emergency medical care and ambulance operation required. The ability to perform tasks for numerous patients, communicate effectively with the team, utilize monitoring equipment and basic patient care equipment, computer terminal and telecommunications equipment.
Education, Licensure and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a formal approved EMS training course; current Texas EMT-B, EMT-I or EMT-P; successful completion of an emergency vehicle operation course (EVOC).
